The Faculty of Civil Engineering and Planning (FTSP), Islamic University of Indonesia (UII), held an Occupational Safety and Health (K3) webinar on 20 Safar 1447 H/14 August 2025 with speakers Azham Umar Abidin, SKM, MPH, Ph.D., lecturer in the Department of Environmental Engineering, FTSP UII, and Ir. Fitri Nugraheni, ST, MT, Ph.D., Vice Dean for Religious Affairs, Student Affairs, and Alumni, FTSP UII. The event was officially opened by the Vice Dean for Resources, FTSP UII, Dr. Ir. Kasam, MT.

Azham Umar Abidin, SKM, MPH, Ph.D., in his presentation entitled "Building Occupational Safety and Health (OHS) Cultural Awareness in the Workplace," explained that the basis of Occupational Safety and Health (OHS) is a series of scientific knowledge and applications aimed at creating a safe, healthy, and hazard-free work environment. This includes efforts to prevent workplace accidents and occupational diseases, and create working conditions conducive to employee well-being.

He explained that OSH is important because it is a need and a right of workers in OSH protection to achieve welfare, to reduce losses due to workplace accidents by management, is a requirement of global trade, and creates a healthy, safe, and productive workplace. Furthermore, OSH has become a global commitment. "By implementing OSH principles, it is hoped that a safe, healthy, and productive work environment can be created, thereby protecting workers from the risk of accidents and occupational diseases," he said.

Meanwhile, Ir. Fitri Nugraheni, ST, MT, Ph.D., with her material "Implementation of Occupational Safety and Health in the Management of Higher Education Facilities" on that occasion conveyed that occupational safety and health (K3) is an effort to guarantee and protect that is aimed at ensuring that workers, students, visitors, and other people in the workplace (campus) are always safe and healthy, and that every production source can be used safely and efficiently.

According to him, K3 is crucial because it enhances image and reputation. An office, agency, or university that implements K3 effectively will be perceived as more professional. "The impact will increase trust from stakeholders and the public," he said.

He further stated that the goal of implementing OHS in higher education is to protect the entire academic community from accidents and illnesses, maintain the safety of facilities, improve the comfort of activities, and minimize the risk of fire, damage, and disasters. Meanwhile, the role of campus management includes developing written OHS policies, providing budgets and safety equipment, conducting OHS training for staff and students, and conducting emergency evacuation simulations.

"K3 is crucial for the safety and sustainability of facilities, so all parties must be involved. And most importantly, a culture of K3 must become a daily habit," he concluded.
